A SHAME.

This series of pocketbooks was supposed to display individual names of people that had been victims of police brutality. …A means of ensuring NO ONE be allowed to forget. But I realized it was too many to name and got overwhelmed. “There’s too many to name. ….that’s a damn shame”, I thought. Turns out that’s what fit perfectly on the bag. The good news is, I strive to create timeless pieces. The bad news is, it looks like this one was no exception. …Go figure

About the Image: I often create my own “ads” to promote or introduce new pieces and/or designs. I spent many years as a graphic designer. This is a self portrait I took of myself with the bag and graphically inserted myself into this very spirited crowd. There were many inspirations for this piece but one of those was to make this a bit of an homage to how so many in the struggle would show up. Stylistically meticulous in the spirit of positive representation despite the fact that they may be soaking wet and shoeless by the end of that day. The pride, the posture, the POWER and the strength. I don’t know that we realize how much we have been affected from having grown up on seeing THAT aesthetic and imagery. I don’t know that we realize the POWER of showing up stylistically meticulous in any and every kinds of “weather”.

About the the Bag: Black cotton lined canvas tote. Appliqued lettering. Exterior side pocket with a wide shoulder strap. Spacious, vibrant and practical. God forbid anything compromise your ability to share the message. This is one of my favorite pieces. It really speaks to people and you don’t have to say a single word. –It’s also not exactly up for debate.
