I love art. …I mean, ALL art. Even what I might consider “bad art” deserves a certain respect. For one, I’m certainly not the authority and secondly, if nothing else at the end of the day you have to respect the freedom of expression that comes with it. Whether or not I get it is really irrelevant. And though my opinion may “matter” in terms of whether or not I choose to invest in it, the only person that matters or holds any real power is the person that created it.
Thanks to the internet, everyday I’m overwhelmed with something beautiful that some brilliant mind somewhere in the galaxy dreamt up. But every now and then there is some piece that hits you at your deepest core. …Shakes up everything inside of you. …Peels the mind wide open and takes you to a place you could never have fathomed going. A piece so powerful it reminds you that God is real and that artists are special people that are blessed enough to not only receive (because we all do and can or course) but receive and manifest his/her transmissions.
About a week or so ago I came across one such piece. A piece so strong I’ve decided to continue talking about it until everyone, well, everyone in my immediate circle can at least say they saw it. The piece is called The Berlin Reunion. Initially when I looked at the pictures and read the text, it registered, but didn’t quite register if you know what I mean. So I forced myself to start over: “READ…now SEE”. After the mental replay, I was speechless. I don’t have enough words to express the emotion I felt from this spectacle! My mind was flooded with a myriad of thoughts immediately: How? Who? How much did this cost???? What was it like to see it in person?! Look at the…How did they….????” And on and on and on. My body got hot, my heart rate sped up! …I was even on the brink of tears! Before I post the link, I better say what I have to say first because afterwards…like me, you may be off “somewhere else” to the point of no return!
To commemorate the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, The Royal de Luxe Theatre created a play starring GIANT marionettes that “performed” through the streets of Berlin. …That explanation does not do this justice. Okay, okay, …check the stills first:
Since my initial introduction to the spectacle, all I’ve been able to think about is what it must have been like to be one of the many people watching below?!. I think I placed myself there to be honest, right amongst the crowd. While I was “standing” amongst the crowd of people with mouths wide open and cameras pointed at the sky I thought, “Wait a minute. …This may be Berlin but youtube is worldwide! SomeONE or some news broadcast must have posted the footage of this monumental event so I can witness it in action!” Sure enough, I found it. I think I watched every persons footage, from every angle. I didn’t want to miss ANYTHING.
It was blessed is all that I can say. (I still wanna cry right now!!!!) I posted it on my facebook, only one friend commented and just happened to appreciate it as much as I. I’m ashamed to say I got a little frustrated by it simply because I knew people didn’t realize the sacredness and the experience awaiting them if only they took the time to “click”! But that’s okay. I’ve decided I will keep sharing it with everyone until they see it and understand or appreciate it’s importance and the brilliance behind such a work.
I have mental jukebox in my head that STAYS on auto. There is a hymn titled ‘Real, Real Jesus is Real to Me’:
Real, Real, Real
Jesus is real to me
Ooooh Yes He gave me the victory
Oooh So many people doubt him
I can’t live without him
That is why I love him so
Because he’s so real to me
….THAT is what played over in my head after I bore witness to this creation. This work was the evidence of dreams actualized, of the unseen, of surely what must have been someone’s otherworldly vision. Of someone’s DIVINE inspiration. I am not religious, but certainly spiritual and a strong believer in the Most High and all of his/her goodness. Regardless of how you feel about religion, ART IS a religious experience.
So for now, “Big up’s” to the Royal de Luxe Theatre Company because they, as the old folks used to say, “put their foot in it” with this one!
Footage below. Have an elightened, “out of the box” sort of day.
-All the way live in Studio5!
